Sewing Apparel Saturdays

$300.00

SATURDAYS 10AM - 12:30PM

SEPTEMBER 13TH - OCTOBER 18TH

WHAT IS IT? This is a garment sewing class where we will work with commercial patterns. You will learn how to read patterns, make a muslin (sample garment) and fit it to your body, adjust the pattern, and sew your finished project.

The class is limited to four people, and each student will work on a different project at their own pace. The major benefit is that you will learn to sew apparel while tailoring the course to your needs. Many students hesitate to advance their skills because they fear working with challenging fabrics. In this course, you may choose fabrics as simple or as difficult as you like. I will teach you how to handle them properly, set up the sewing machine for your fabric, and of course, share pressing skills and tips.

I will provide instruction and guidance, but the key to this class is giving students the chance to gain experience by experimenting and learning independently. You will also benefit from listening in on other students’ projects and learning from their process. This six-week session allows students to do as much or as little work as they choose. If you want additional homework, I’ll set you up with it. If you prefer to sew only in class, that works too.

Private lessons are $85 for 1½ hours. This class is $300 for 2½ hours of instruction each week, making it a great opportunity to work on your own project at a lower cost while benefiting from the support of fellow students.

This series runs every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM for six weeks. Makeup classes are not available. Beginner’s 101 is a prerequisite for this course. I expect to run this class in the fall of 2025 and continue into 2026.

All machinery is provided, though you may bring your own machine if you prefer. It must be in good working condition; if it has mechanical problems, I won’t be able to troubleshoot it during class, so please make sure you are comfortable using it.

All fabrics and projects must be approved in advance, as some fabrics are not suited for certain machines.

Machines available: Juki HZL-353Z home machine (used in the Beginner’s Class), Industrial Juki Overlock, Juki Home Overlock, Industrial Steam Iron, and all pressing tools.

If you choose to cut your fabric in class with a rotary cutter, you must bring your own cutter. You will have access to the cutting board. Some rulers will be available for measuring and cutting.

CLASS #1: Please come prepared with your pattern, fabric (or fabric swatches), and all of your sewing tools. If you have questions about selecting a pattern, fabrics, or skill level, please contact me in advance.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you cannot attend, I can provide you with a credit of $300 which you can use toward future sewing classes. It will only be provided if you notify me 72 hours in advance by emailing jamesena@vecinadesign.com. There must also be a class waitlist so I can fill your spot. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy. There are no refunds.
