Sunday November 3rd, 1pm – 4pm. This class is being held at Vecina, 540 Biden Street, Downtown Scranton.
THE PROJECT IS AN INFINITY SCARF. ALL OTHER PHOTOS ARE INSPIRATION FOR FUTURE PROJECTS.
BEGINNER'S 101 SEWING is required or sewing and cutting experience is a must. Because of the fabric being used, we will only use my Juki home machines for this class. You must know how to thread a machine and a bobbin, I will not be covering that in this class. Class size is limited to 4 people.
So ..... do you have a few saris in your closet?
I have several students who are excited to get creative with theirs and I have just the starter class! We will be making an infinity scarf.
Saris are large pieces of fabric with intricate designs; you can definitely get creative designing something modern for your wardrobe or home.
Saris are silk, sheer, they fray easily, and can be very billowy. For a beginner, it can be a challenge to learn how to handle this type of fabric. However, the stitching and construction is very simple.
In class we will discuss the layout of how you want your scarf to look, such as using the narrow border, wide border, no border, etc. and we will cut it in class. No pattern is needed, I will guide you how to cut it based on measurements. My sari is 43” wide x 180” long (that’s 5 yards!)
As a group we can also discuss future sari projects and I will briefly suggest how you would cut & make apparel, accessories, pillows, curtains, etc. from your leftover fabric.
Supplies you need to bring: a sari or pieces of sari fabric that will make an appropriate infinity scarf size, about 22" x 72", scissors, pins, matching polyester 'everyday' thread.
I will supply a rotary cutter & mat, one pair of very sharp scissors (good for thin & sheer fabrics) long rulers and wax and chalk for marking.
