Clothing Alterations & Repairs Workshop
Saturday, January 24th, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Location: Vecina, 544 Biden Street, Downtown Scranton
Learn the essential skills to confidently hem, alter, and repair your own clothing in this hands-on workshop.
Class size is limited to 6 students, ages 16 and up.
Sewing Machines
A JUKI HZL-353Z home machine will be provided for each student.
Because personal machines can be finicky, the only personal machine permitted is a newly purchased JUKI HZL-353Z.
If you'd like to learn on your own machine, private lessons are available.
What You’ll Learn
Hemming & Pressing

Hem pants, skirts, and sleeves, with or without lining

Learn effective pressing methods using professional pressing tools
Alterations

Take in waistbands
-
Take in side seams on tops, jackets, dresses, and skirts

Learn both the quick method and the proper method for alterations
Repairs
Hands-On Pinning & Altering

I will demonstrate pinning on each student

Each student will pin a garment on another student

You will complete real alterations and repairs during class
Decision-Making Skills

When to hand sew vs. machine sew

How fabric type determines your approach

How to evaluate the best finishing technique for each garment
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the confidence and skills to alter and repair everyday clothing.
What to Bring

3 - 4 clean garments needing alterations or repairs.

Scissors, pins, and matching thread
Hand needles, rulers, and additional tools will be provided.

All registrations are final.
If you cannot attend, you will receive an $75 credit toward a future sewing class.
Registration indicates agreement with this policy.
