TEXTILES WORKSHOP
This is being held at 544 Biden Street, Downtown Scranton, the new Vecina location.
It's here! I will be teaching an introductory workshop about textiles. I’m asked so many questions, I think there is a need for a basic, hands-on class about fabrics. Especially for students looking to expand their sewing skills.
The course is on two Thursdays • March 20th & March 27th, 6 pm - 8 pm each night. Cost is $110. You can bring your personal machine and all fabrics are provided. Supplies needed are a spool of thread & a bobbin (any color) and scissors or snips.
We will cover natural & synthetic fibers, fabric weaves and weights. You will learn the difference between wovens and knits. I’ll also touch upon non-wovens and leather. Once you make your way through this introduction class, purchasing fabrics online will be somewhat easier, you will have a good baseline to start from!
The workshop will consist of teaching, quite a bit of show and tell, Q & A and then sewing a wide selection of fabrics including silks and linens in all weights, various denim weights, canvas, wool, leather, brocades & jacquard, upholstery fabric, utilitarian fabrics such as rip-stop (used for parachutes) and nylon pack-cloth (used for backpacks and tents), knit jersey (tee shirts, wrap dresses), polyester, rayon, novelties, different cotton weaves and weights, herringbones, plaids, fabrics with spandex and more. Everyone will get a practice packet of about 20 fabrics to test and run through their machine during the workshops.
Personal machines are allowed at this workshop, I will also provide one if needed. Please leave me a note when you place your order if you are bringing your machine. I can provide up to 6 machines.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you cannot attend, I can provide you with a credit of $110 which you can use toward future sewing classes. It will only be provided if you notify me 72 hours in advance by emailing jamesena@vecinadesign.com. There must also be a class wait list so I can fill your spot. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy. There are no refunds.
